Consider what a prospect does before they hire a research firm. They search. Not for a company name they’ve never heard, but for the thing they need done. Market analysis. That search behaviour is the entire argument for this name. It sits on the phrase itself, on the .com, with no modifier, no hyphen and nothing bolted on. Equity desks bill for market analysis. Consultancies sell it by the page. Every strategy team produces one before a launch and every investment committee reads one before writing a cheque.

Product and portfolio roadmapping tools are a real market with several funded players, and not one of them owns the plain-language phrase for what they sell. That’s the gap. Owning it means arriving in front of a buyer who’s searching in their own words rather than in vendor vocabulary, which is what people do before they know which vendors exist. The phrase itself names a document every serious organisation produces and most produce badly: the plan for what gets built, bought and retired over the coming years, and the artefact CTOs are judged on.

Whatever gets said about it at conferences, teams still run sprints, still hold retros, and still hire people to fix their process. Agile remains the working method of most of the industry. Softdev is common practitioner shorthand for software development, which means this name reads as insider rather than as marketing. That distinction matters when selling to engineering leaders who can spot an outsider in one line of copy. Twelve characters covering three keywords is efficient for a descriptive name, and descriptive names are what B2B buyers actually respond to.

Boards that never thought about geography now have standing agenda items about it. Where the chips are made, which straits the cargo passes through, whose grid the data centre sits on. That shift created a client base. Shipping lines, energy majors, manufacturers, insurers and funds all buy geographic risk analysis now, from firms that mostly did not exist a decade ago. Geostrategy is the correct word for that work and a more exact one than geopolitics, which has drifted toward commentary.

Climbers use crux for the hardest move on a route. Analysts use it for the assumption that determines the whole conclusion. Either way it’s the decisive point, the thing everything else depends on. Hypercrux intensifies that into something with real energy, reading as a company that works on the hard problem rather than around it. That suits a strategy consultancy, a research firm, a security company, or a technical product aimed at bottlenecks.

Scenario carries appropriate humility about prediction while still promising rigour, which is exactly the positioning a credible research business wants. Forecast promises more than anyone can deliver. Scenario planning is how serious organisations handle a future they can’t forecast: build several coherent versions of what might happen and test the strategy against each. It’s standard practice in energy, finance, defence and corporate strategy, and financial institutions are required to run scenarios for regulatory purposes, which creates permanent demand.

Roadmap does better work than plan or strategy. It implies sequence and direction rather than a static document, and it’s the word product and strategy teams actually use, so the name reads as native to the buyer. A market roadmap says where a business is going and in what order: which segments, which geographies, which products, on what timeline. Every company that raises money has to produce one. The name suits a strategy consultancy, a planning software product, a research firm publishing sector roadmaps, or a training and templates business.

Integration, data platforms, security and identity are all transversal by nature, and all hard precisely because they don’t belong to any one department. Transversal means cutting across. In organisational and policy language a transversal function spans departments rather than sitting inside one, and the word is used heavily in European institutional and consulting contexts. Applied to technology it names the systems and capabilities cutting across an organisation, which is a real and well-defined consulting market.
