In cinema, anamorphic is the lens format squeezing a wide image onto standard film, producing the horizontal flares and oval bokeh that people read as the look of a movie. In art it’s distorted perspective, where an image resolves only from the correct angle or in a curved mirror, a technique running back through Holbein and the Renaissance.
