Every autonomous vehicle programme does radar modelling now, which has pushed a defence discipline into the automotive mainstream. Before a radar system gets built, its performance is simulated: detection ranges, clutter behaviour, multipath effects, countermeasures. The modelling determines whether the hardware is worth building at all, and the work sits inside defence primes, research institutes and a specialist software sector that has grown as radar spread into automotive, weather and maritime applications.
